Ounila Valley, Telouet and Ait Ben Haddou
Leaving Marrakech we climb to the Tizi n'Tichka, then turn off onto the old road to Telouet. The Glaoui kasbah looks ruined from outside, but two restored rooms inside still carry their painted ceilings and carved plaster. We then take the Ounila Valley track — red gorges, terraced fields and villages built into the cliff — down to Ait Ben Haddou, where we cross the river and climb through the ksar to the granary. Lunch on a terrace facing the kasbah before returning.

Can this be done as a day trip from Marrakech?
Yes, and it is a long but rewarding day: about four hours of driving each way plus the two visits. From Ouarzazate it is a relaxed half-day, since Ait Ben Haddou is only thirty kilometres away.
Is the Ounila Valley road difficult?
It is a mix of narrow tarmac and graded piste, entirely fine in a 4x4 and spectacular throughout. We do not use it in heavy rain, when we return by the main road instead.
