Marrakech
The red city at the foot of the Atlas, and the departure point for most southern journeys. A UNESCO-listed medina, a square that empties and refills twice a day, and the road over the mountains starting an hour away.
The medina
The old city inside the walls is a dense grid of souks, riads and workshops around the Jemaa el-Fna. The square is quiet by day and fills with food stalls, musicians and crowds after dark. The Koutoubia minaret, the Ben Youssef Medersa, the Saadian Tombs and the Bahia Palace are the fixed points; the rest is best walked without a plan.
Gardens and quiet
The Majorelle Garden, the Menara olive basin and the Agdal gardens all offer relief from the medina. The Palmeraie north of the city is where balloon flights launch at dawn.
Leaving for the south
Almost every trip we run starts here. The Atlas foothills are an hour away, the Tizi n'Tichka pass two, and Aït Ben Haddou four. We collect you from your riad or hotel — including inside the medina, where we meet you at the nearest vehicle access point.
